Baked Ziti

  • 1 box ziti
  • 1.5 lbs. ground beef
  • 2 large sweet onions, chopped
  • 3 cloves of garlic, chopped
  • 1 6oz. can tomato paste
  • 1 16oz. can of tomato sauce
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2 tbsp dried oregano
  • 2 tbsp dried thyme
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella
  • 1 ½ tbsp dried rosemary
  • salt and pepper

Temperature: 350 ° F

  1. Preheat the oven to 350F. In a large pot over medium – high heat add 3 tbsp olive oil. Once the oil gets warm add the chopped onion and garlic. Cook the onions and garlic until translucent, stirring often.

  2. To the pot add the ground beef. Cook until brown, stirring occasionally. Next add the tomato paste, tomato sauce, 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp pepper, oregano, rosemary, bay leaves and thyme. Fill the empty tomato sauce can with water and add it to the pot. Reduce the heat and cook down for 45 minutes to an hour, uncovered.

  3. While the sauce is reducing, cook the ziti according to package instructions. When the sauce is ready, combine the pasta and sauce. Mix together to coat all of the ziti. Transfer to the lasagna dish. Add the mozzarella liberally across the top and finish with parmesan cheese. Cover with aluminum foil and place in the oven for 35-40 minutes.

  4. Remove the foil and cook for another 10 minutes.
